This 2 week intensive course takes your from Day Skipper to Coastal Skipper and will equip you with the skills for planning and sailing longer coastal passages. This course is ideal for those who already have the RYA Day Skipper cetifcate but who have not yet built up any experience, or haven't sailed for a while
Before your course you will need to study your
Week One will be spent putting into practise what you have learned in your Theory Training. Passage Planning, Pilotage and Collision Regulations will be covered from a practical viewpoint. We will sail some longer Coastal Passages to give you experience of Watch keeping and living onboard.
You will then have the weekend to yourself to explore the local area, go to the beach, or brush up on your Theory. In week 2 we will then develop your boat handling and skippering skills up to the level required for the RYA Coastal Skipper syllabus with the emphasis on Skippering Ability and Boat Handling under Sail and Power. . Following succesful completion of this 2 week Fast Track you will receive the RYA Coastal Skipper Photo License and have the confidence to sail longer passages with your family and friends.
Pre Course Experience - 5 Days onboard, 100 miles, some Boat Handling experience, 4 night hours
Assumed Knowledge - Theory to the level of Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster. You must complete the
Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster online theory course beforehand.
Minimum Duration - 10 days
Minimum Age - 17
Preparation for sea, deck work, navigation, pilotage, meteorology, rules of the road, maintenance and repair work, engines, victualling, emergency situations, yacht handling under power, yacht handling under sail, passage making, night cruising
