A comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers.
Pre Course Requirements
It is recommended that you have some sailing experience prior to attending a Day Skipper Theory Course, although not mandatory.
What to Bring
You don’t need to bring anything, we sell portland chart plotters and dividers 😊
The course takes place over 5 days in our purpose-built, air-conditioned classroom just metres from the marina in Marbella.
The course price includes all books, materials & training Alamanac.
The course can be taken over 2 weekends Friday to Sunday and the following Saturday and Sunday. Or, Monday to Friday to suit your circumstances.
The course is taught over 40 hours with two exam papers. It can be covered as an intensive week-long course, or the weekend before your Day Skipper Practical and the following weekend after your practical course.
The Course Syllabus includes:
the basics of seamanship
the essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage
plotting a course to steer
weather forecasting and meteorology
construction, parts, and equipment of a cruising boat
emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets, and liferafts

After being awarded your Day Skipper Theory Certificate you will be ready to take on the RYA Day Skipper Practical! As a Day Skipper, you will have the knowledge and skills to skipper a yacht in familiar waters during the day.
RYA Day Skipper Theory
Our RYA Day Skipper Theory Course introduces and builds the student up to a competent level of navigation of a small craft. The course includes position plotting, allowing for tides, interpreting lights and shapes used and understanding the rules of the road that apply to all vessels.
